February 3rd, 2010 by chipcosby | No Comments | Filed in UncategorizedThanks to six signatures that arrived at the University of Kentucky on Wednesday, Joker Phillips’ first national signing day as the head coach at UK turned out to be a good one.
Phillips hinted at some surprises early in the week, and he delivered. He got a signature from Miami tailback Brandon Gainer, rated as the No. 15 back in the country by ESPN.com. Central linebacker Tim Patterson picked the Cats over Louisville, and Simon Kenton tailback Miles Simpson chose UK over Ilinois and Indiana.
Also, defensive lineman Donte Rumph signed with UK for the third straight year, and Phillips said that he expects Rumph to be eligible to play in 2010.
UK’s class, which had been ranked as low as 77th in the nation, ended up being ranked 46th by Scout.com and 49th by Rivals.com.
