Cat Ties In Carmel

Even though UK super recruit Morgan Newton plays his high school ball in Indiana, he’s had a Wildcat influence whispering in his ear since he’s started high school.

Rachel Cole, a counselor at Carmel High school, is a native of Lexington and coached the varsity girls’ basketball team at Lafayette High School for four seasons. Cole moved from Lexington to Carmel four years ago when her husband’s job relocated him. Cole was in attendance for Newton’s press conference on Thursday and clapped loudly when he announced for UK.

“I might be the happiest person in the whole school,” Cole said. “I’m a die-hard UK fan. We’ve always been telling Morgan from day one he ought to give Kentucky some serious thought. Now we’ve got even more reason to cheer for the Cats.”
