Brooks: Fulmer situation a ’shame’

November 3rd, 2008 by chipcosby | Filed under Uncategorized.

Kentucky Coach Rich Brooks commented Monday on Tennessee Coach Phil Fulmer stepping down after 17 years on the Vol sidelines. Fulmer has a 150-51 career record and won the national title in 1998.

“It’s a shame that a coach with a winning percentage of about 75 percent, who also won the SEC Eastern Division last season, is stepping down.  It’s a sign of the times in our ‘What have you done for me lately?’ society.

“Coach Fulmer has been a great representative of college football and given Tennessee a lot of great years.  He’ll be missed in college football.”

Tell Brooks to get a copy of Fulmer’s good by speech. He will need it next month.

I agree with Brooks. I live in the knoxville area and you would think the vols haven’t won a game in the past 4 years. I hope he continues to coach, he’s a very classy guy and a coach the players love. He won’t leave knoxville though.

I wholeheartedly agree with Rich. Loyalty means nothing especially in the world of sports. Whatever happened to honor, trust and loyalty that at one time was at the forefront of school athletics? Today there is no satisfaction in winning since one win is forgotten and the pressure is on to to it of else. I recall when I played the game we certainly wanted to win but there was the joy of playing the game and the respect of the coaches. Everyone devoted their efforts to performing their best but the school was not quick to CUT the coach because the team was not winning every game. To remove the coach means their is no thought for the connection and relationships between the players and the coach.
I am not surprised with the management at Temn. WHO IS?
    Have gr8 day!
