Tennessee players: “We don’t give a damn about the whole state of Kentucky.”

December 1st, 2008 by chipcosby | Filed under Fulmer.

Outgoing Tennessee coach Phil Fulmer went out with a bang on the field and in the locker room during his team’s 28-10 win over Kentucky is his finale. ESPN.com’s Gene Wojciechkowski chronicled Fulmer’s final 24 hours on the job, and included in that period was an emotional post-game rant where Fulmer called tight end Luke Stocker to the middle of the room and led a song that  stated, “We don’t give a damn about the whole state of Kentucky … the whole state of Kentucky … the whole state of Kentucky. We don’t give a damn about the whole state of Kentucky … we’re … from … Tennessee!”

Lack of class is what got Fulmer fired! Are you surprised?

I read that article. I missed the part about the emotional postgame ‘rant’. Can you tell me where that was so I can go back and find it?

You seem a little surprised by the song. If you are new to covering American football, then you might not realize that UT borrowed that from Ohio, who famously sing ‘We don’t give a damn about the whole state of Michigan…’ The Vols sing it after wins over Florida, Bama, UGa, etc., inserting the appropriate state name. Obviously they sing the UK version more frequently than any other.

What a bunch of copycats… that song belongs to OSU!
