Lewis is listed as a four-star prospect by Rivals.com and Scout.com.
Lewis, who has 13 scholarship offers, told ESPN.com recruiting analyst Bill Kurelic that he’s narrowed his choices to UK and Michigan State and that he was planning on making an unofficial visit to Lexington on Tuesday.

Spurrier owns up to Tebow snub
July 24th, 2009 by chipcosby | No Comments | Filed in UncategorizedSouth Carolina Steve Spurrier admitted that he was the coach who didn’t vote for Florida’s Tim Tebow as the first-team All-SEC quarterback on Friday at SEC Media Days.
Spurrier said his ballot was filled out by a staff member, and that staff member voted for Jevan Snead. Spurrier said he later asked that staff member if he voted for Tebow, and the staff member said that since there were already so many Florida players on the ballot, he decided to go with Snead. But Spurrier took responsibility for the mistake and said he would even rank Tebow with former player Danny Wuerrfel as perhaps the two greatest quarterbacks in college football history.
Spurrier also said he consulted with SEC associate commisioner Charles Bloom and was able to change his vote to put Tebow on the first team.
“That’s my fault,” Spurrier said. “I apologize to Tim Tebow. I’m embarrassed about it. But that’s the way it happened. I have no reason to slight Tim. I think he’s not only the best quarterback in our league, but the best quarterback in the country and the best football player in the country.”
Lindley named first-team All-SEC; Duncan, Johnson on second-team
July 24th, 2009 by chipcosby | No Comments | Filed in UncategorizedKentucky senior cornerback Trevard Lindley was named to the All-SEC first-team defense by the media at SEC Media Days on Friday.
Lindley was the lone Wildcat to make the first team. Senior linebacker Micah Johnson and offensive tackle Zipp Duncan were both named to the second team. Tennessee defensive back Eric Berry received the most overall votes with 62, which was one more than Florida quarterback Tim Tebow and Florida linebacker Brandon Spikes.
Cats picked last in SEC East
July 24th, 2009 by chipcosby | No Comments | Filed in UncategorizedKentucky Coach Rich Brooks took a good-natured dig at the media on Monday for always picking his team last in the SEC East. Brooks will have even more ammunition now, as his Wildcats were indeed picked to finish sixth in the division in the preseason poll released at SEC Media Days on Friday.
Florida was picked as the SEC champion by 63 of the 64 voters, with Ole Miss receiving the other vote. The Cats placed 11th overall in the league in terms of votes, ranking ahead of Mississippi State.
My All-SEC ballot
July 23rd, 2009 by chipcosby | No Comments | Filed in UncategorizedJust turned in my All-SEC ballot and predicted order of finish for the Eastern and Western Divisions. The media’s All-SEC team will be released Friday morning. A few notes on my picks:
-Yes, I voted Tim Tebow first-team quarterback
-I placed UK defensive back Trevard Lindley on my first-team defense. I went back-and-forth on UK linebacker Micah Johnson, but the league is loaded at linebacker this year and Brandon Spikes (Florida), Rolando McClain (Alabama) and Eric Norwood (South Carolina) all had slightly better numbers than Johnson. It wouldn’t surprise me to see Johnson a first-teamer at the end of the year.
-I voted for UK fourth in the SEC East. Obviously Florida is the class of the division, and Georgia will be in the mix. After that I think you can throw South Carolina, UK, Vandy and Tennessee in a hat and come up with 3-6. I picked South Carolina ahead of UK simply because Steve Spurrier owns the Cats and this year’s game is in Columbia. I picked UK ahead of Tennessee because I’m not sold on Lane Kiffin and believe this might be the year that the Cats actually knock off the Vols (the game is at Commonwealth Stadium). As for Vandy, I think the Commodores might be better than last year’s bowl team, but they face a brutal schedule that includes road trips to Florida, South Carolina, LSU and Tennessee along with a tough non-conference game against Georgia Tech.
Here’s my All-SEC team and conference picks:

Saban recalls ‘Bluegrass Miracle’
July 23rd, 2009 by chipcosby | No Comments | Filed in UncategorizedAlabama Coach Nick Saban was asked to take a trip down memory lane back to his days as LSU coach and the Bluegrass Miracle, the 74-yard touchdown pass at the horn that led the Tigers to an improbable win over Kentucky in 2002.
But what Saban remembers the most from that game was not the final play, but the aftermath. While the victory guaranteed Saban and LSU a lifetime place in the college football highlight reel vault (it won the ‘Best Play’ award in the 2003 ESPY’s), it may have proved costly in the long run. LSU was blanked at home by Alabama 31-0 the following week and lost three of its final four games to close the season.
“I’ve always been told by mentors, that the worst thing your team can do is play poorly and win,” he said. “And we played poorly that day and won. And we got our rear ends kicked in the worst defeat in all the time I was at LSU the next week because of that. That’s what I remember the most. You didn’t expect that answer, did you?”
